Jonathan Falwell

Rev. Jonathan Falwell is the Senior Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church (TRBC) in Lynchburg, Virginia. He has served at TRBC under the leadership of his father and Founding Pastor, Dr. Jerry Falwell, since 1995. His responsibilities include the preaching duties of the church, the management of over 250 staff members, communication with over 20,000 church members, long-term planning for ministry outreach, as well as the planning of special outreach events that reach well over 250,000 individuals in person each year in addition to the church’s regular attendees, and millions more through the church’s television ministries. Rev. Falwell preaches at the main worship services each Sunday morning. TRBC has over 12,000 in attendance each Sunday.

Rev. Falwell serves as the Executive Vice President of Spiritual Affairs at Liberty University. Liberty University is the world’s largest evangelical Christian university with over 28,000 students (10,400 on campus and additional 18,000 in external degree programs) in the 2007-2008 school year. Rev. Falwell oversees all spiritual aspects of the University through the Campus Pastor’s office which includes 12 full-time pastors to minister to the student body. He also oversees the School of Religion and Liberty Theological Seminary programs to ensure their adherence to the overall mission of the University. Another important aspect of Rev. Falwell’s role at Liberty is working with all Schools within the University in long-term planning. The goal of the University is to reach 50,000 students (25,000 on campus and an additional 25,000 in external degree programs) in the next 10 years.

Before Rev. Falwell joined the staff at TRBC, he was involved in numerous business ventures including, in 1990, starting one of Virginia’s largest video and film production companies that still thrives today. He is an accomplished photographer whose photographs have appeared in Time Magazine, NewsWeek, US News & World Report, the Washington Post and other national and international magazines. Rev. Falwell serves on the boards of several organizations including the Board of Trustees for Liberty University in Lynchburg.
Rev. Falwell is the host of a weekly nationwide television show called Main Street Today. He interviews leaders from all sectors of society about their faith and how they use their faith to make a difference in our society. Rev. Falwell has also appeared as a guest on numerous television and radio programs nationwide including Oprah (syndicated), CNN and the Fox News Network.

Rev. Falwell earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University in 1987. He earned his Master of Arts in Religion from the Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in 1996. He earned his law degree (Juris Doctor) in 2005 from William Howard Taft University in Santa Ana, California.

Rev. Falwell and his wife, Shari, have four children; Jonathan Jr. (born 1996), Jessica (born 1997), and Natalie and Nicholas (born 2000.) They reside in Lynchburg, Virginia.
